COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: Wall Hawks

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We stay in Class 3A Division II with the Wall Hawks. On Sunday we will take a look at the Coahoma Bulldogs followed by the Comanche Indians on Monday.

WALL HAWKS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 5-5 overall, 3-2 District 3-3A Division I

ONE KEY STAT

  • Wall’s 5-5 record in 2021 marked the program’s first non-winning season since 2008, when the Hawks went 3-7 in coach Houston Guy’s second season. WHS averaged 11 wins per season from 2009-2020.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Junior DB Nathan Pepper (Had 84 tackles, including 61 solos, in 2021)
  •  Senior DL Jayden Sellers (had 50 tackles in 2021)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • With 23 lettermen returning, including eight offensive and 10 defensive starters, can the Hawks get back to their previous standard this fall?
  • How will a drop to Class 3A Division II impact Wall’s chances of a deep playoff run?
  • With so much talent and experience back, just how good can this year’s defensive unit be?
