COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: Coahoma Bulldogs

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We stay in Class 3A Division II with the Coahoma Bulldogs. On Monday we will take a look at the Comanche Indians, followed by the Dublin Lions on Tuesday.

COAHOMA BULLDOGS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 3-7 overall, 1-4 District 4-3A Division II

ONE KEY STAT

  • The Bulldogs were outscored 340-272 in 2021, marking the first time since coach Chris Joslin’s first year in 2018 that Coahoma finished with a negative point differential.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Junior QB/WR Billy Bailey (Had 1,116 yards and 11 touchdowns passing, 130 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing and 31 yards and 1 TD receiving in 2021)
  • Sophomore RB/LB Jaidyn Vineyard (Had 414 yards and 6 touchdowns rushing and 78 tackles in 2021)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  •  Can the Bulldogs get back to the playoffs in a brutal district that once again features regional threats Abernathy, Idalou and Lubbock Roosevelt?
  • After suffering heavy graduation losses on both lines, will Coahoma get the push it needs up front on offense and defense?
  • With six starters back, can the Bulldogs improve on last year’s defensive performance, which saw CHS allow 34 points per game?
