ABILENE — It was a milestone kind of a night for the Stephenville boys basketball team Tuesday as the Yellow Jackets notched their 30th win of the season with their first playoff victory since 2018, knocking off Frenship Memorial 62-50 in a Region I-4A Division I bi-district matchup at Abilene Christian University’s Moody Coliseum.
Trailing 9-2 less than three minutes into the game, the Jackets rallied to take their first lead since the game’s opening bucket on a Dillinger Thiebaud layup with 5:41 to play in the second quarter. And coach Drew McDorman’s team protected that advantage the rest of the way, stretching its 21-19 lead to 25-21 by halftime and 41-31 by the start of the fourth quarter.
Stephenville’s lead grew as wide as 15 points in the final period, eliminating any suspense as to whether or not the Jackets (30-4) would be advancing to the area round later this week.
