LUBBOCK — The Wylie baseball team locked up a playoff berth and dashed Lubbock Coronado’s postseason hopes in one swoop Tuesday, routing the Mustangs 7-1 to set up a huge home matchup with Lubbock Cooper on Friday.
Needing a win over Coronado to avoid a do-or-die game against the District 4-5A leading Pirates in Friday’s regular season finale, the Bulldogs took control early, using a three-run second inning to build a lead they would never relinquish.
Pitcher Sam Walker took care of things from there, limiting the Mustangs to one run over seven outstanding innings to help his team improve to 17-10 overall and 11-6 in league play.
