COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: San Saba Armadillos

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We stay in Class 2A Division I with the San Saba Armadillos. On Monday we will take a look at the Ballinger Bearcats, followed by the Brady Bulldogs on Tuesday.

SAN SABA ARMADILLOS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 2-9 overall, 2-3 District 4-2A Division I

ONE KEY STAT

  • San Saba allowed 414 points per game last season — marking only the second time in program history that the Armadillos surrendered more than 400 points.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Senior QB Lance Taylor (Had 2,131 yards and 18 touchdowns passing and 186 yards and 3 touchdowns rushing in 2021)
  • Senior WR/DB Tyler Johnson (Had 515 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving in 2021)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • With 15 of 22 lettermen back from last year, including five starters on both sides of the ball, can San Saba take a significant step forward in 2022?
  • How much better will quarterback Lance Taylor be in his second year as the team’s starter?
  • Can the Armadillo defense make substantial improvement after a tough season last fall?
