COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: Hamlin Pied Pipers

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We continue in Class 2A Division II with the Hamlin Pied Pipers. On Friday we will take a look at the Cross Plains Buffaloes, followed by the Roscoe Plowboys on Saturday.

HAMLIN PIED PIPERS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 0-10 overall, 0-5 in District 5-2A Division II

ONE KEY STAT

  • Last year’s 0-10 campaign marked the Pied Pipers’ first winless season since 2005. They had averaged 10.6 wins per season from 2014 to 2020.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Senior OL/DL Nick Walker (Had 15 pancake blocks, 20 tackles and two forced fumbles in 2021)
  • Senior QB/LB Colton Spalding (Averaged more than 10 tackles per game in 2021)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • With 14 lettermen back, including seven offensive and nine defensive starters, can the Pied Pipers improve enough in 2022 to return to the playoffs?
  • After scoring just 28 points all year in 2021, can Hamlin find consistent offense this fall?
  • How much more comfortable will the Hamlin players be with coach Chris Evans and his schemes in Year 2?
