District 2-5A Division I: Week 5 Report

Cooper 70, Lubbock Monterey 49 — The Cougars overcame a slow start to score 42 second-quarter points, before coasting in the second half to an impressive win over a talented Monterey squad.

Cooper, which led 63-14 late in the third quarter, amassed 630 total yards, including 399 on the ground. Both Noah Garcia (15-217, 3 TDs rushing; 4-58, 1 TD receiving) and Jessus Menjivar (16-150, 2 TDs rushing) had big nights in the running game, while quarterback Aidan Thompson passed for 225 yards and three touchdowns.

The Coogs, who got interceptions from Dylon Davis and Brady Miller in the win, will take a 5-0 overall record and a 1-0 district mark into its second 3-5A DI matchup Friday at Lubbock Coronado.
