District 2-5A Division I: Week 3 Report

Abilene High 20, Cooper 13 — The Cougars played a near perfect first half Friday at Shotwell Stadium, taking a 13-3 halftime lead over Abilene High in the Crosstown Showdown. But the Eagles rallied back over the final two quarters, outscoring Cooper 17-0 to earn the victory.

CHS quarterback Aidan Thompson completed 18 of 34 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, both to junior receiver Daelin Campos. Running back Noah Garcia led all rushers with 55 yards on six carries, but his third-quarter fumble ended the Coogs’ best scoring chance of the second half.

Cooper, still in search of its first win, will try to end the season-opening skid when it hosts Wylie at 7 p.m. Thursday.
