Petrolia 27, Munday 20 — Petrolia narrowly escaped Munday in overtime, improving to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in league play to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
The Pirates must now sweep both Archer City and Seymour and hope that Haskell is upset next week by Electra to get into postseason play.

HASKELL — Needing a district win to put itself into a strong position for a No. 3 playoff seed, Haskell had Seymore at home, in front of an enthusiastic crowd and played gutsy, inspired defense all night.
There was just one ingredient missing: The Haskell offense.
Managing only 58 total yards and four first downs, the Indians fell in our Big Country Preps Game of the Week 16-0, as Seymour all but locked up the three seed and created some new possibilities for itself.
Snyder quarterback Easton Stewart barely makes a dent when he steps on the scale, standing in at 5-foot-8 and only 140 pounds. But the SHS junior was plenty big enough to lead the Tigers to a 35-21 upset over Graham last week at Tiger Stadium.
Our BCP Player of the Week connected on 27 of 34 pass attempts for 282 yards and five scores and rushed for an additional 30 to lead the Tigers (3-5, 1-1) to a crucial victory.
Archer City 27, Haskell 20 — Freshman Joe Castles threw for 211 yards and one score and Elijah Jackson rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns to lead Archer City to a win over Haskell.
The win sets up an opportunity for the surprising Wildcats (5-2, 3-0) to play for sole possession of the league lead next week at Windthorst.
Haskell 58, Munday 6 — The Indians rolled up 438 yards in total offense to win their district opener.
Grady Vasquez threw for 140 yards and two scores and Trevor Henry rushed for 80 yards and two more TDs to lead Haskell (4-3, 2-1) which remains in the hunt for a high playoff seed.
After an 0-1 start in district play with a loss at Wall, the Clyde Lady Bulldogs were facing some pressure last week in tough league matchups against Jim Ned and San Angelo TLCA.
Clyde responded with a pair of wins and our Big Country Preps Player of the Week, junior setter Abby Carr was at the forefront of that effort.
Charting 38 assists, 19 kills and four aces, Carr was not only setting up the offense, but when rotating to the front line, she also did a pretty fair job of finishing it.
Haskell 42, Petrolia 20 — Trevor Henry rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns to lift Haskell as former Petrolia coach Mitch McLemore defeated his former club.
Grady Vasquez supplemented the Haskell attack with 105 yards through the air and an additional touchdown.
Marquise Johnson hadn’t played the position in about four years.
But when Mitch McLemore was looking for someone to take over as Haskell’s starting quarterback this season, he turned to last year’s slot receiver.
“He’s had a little bit of a learning curve, but he brought the most to the table as far as athleticism, throwing, running and smarts,” McLemore said. “He’s done a great job learning a lot of stuff in a short period of time.”
The Indians are taking a 2-3 record into this week’s important District 7-2A Division II game at Petrolia, where McLemore spent two years (2019-20) as head coach.
Windthorst 26, Haskell 20 — Logan Cope threw for 145 yards and one TD and rushed for 29 yards and two more scores to lift Windthorst to a tough road win at Haskell.
Haskell was led by Trevor Henry, who rushed for 130 yards and three scores on 22 carries.
