When it comes to senior leadership, the 2022 Wylie softball team is measuring in quality, not quantity.
With just one fourth-year player on this year’s roster — center fielder Ryleigh Whitehead — the Lady Bulldogs aren’t as deep in seasoned voices as many of their past teams have been.
But Whitehead, who was been on varsity since earning a call-up for the playoffs as a freshman in 2019, has proven quite capable as a lead singer. And with eight talented juniors behind her providing near pitch-perfect backup vocals, Wylie’s lone senior is far from a solo act.
Most high school football teams have that one player acknowledged by the coaching staff as the prime example of what a teammate should be.

It’s never a surprise to see Sweetwater senior quarterback Leo Holsey among the top performers in our Capital Farm Credit/Big Country Preps Player of the Week column.
It’s one thing to rush for more than 300 yards and three scores against a struggling program. We see that all the time from the area’s top running backs.
Ballinger 21, Clyde 13 — Carter Arrott rushed for 115 yards and two scores and Beau Perkins rushed for 140 yards and another TD to lift the Bearcats (3-1) to a road win.
In a week filled with unforgettable moments, several of our nominees handed in by area coaches could justifiably be called our Capital Farm Credit/BCP Player of the Week.
