SNYDER — Anthony Gonzales had already built a struggling program at Lovington N.M. into a three-time state champion. He had things rolling in the Land of Enchantment and as far as many were concerned, he had no reason to leave.
Several calls came in, inviting him to more lucrative settings. But the answer was always “no thank you.”
That is, until Snyder called. The Tigers were struggling, but had demonstrated in the past that they were capable of a high level of success. And to the surprise of many, Gonzales took the gig, accepting the challenges of low numbers, a lack of culture and the Texas pressure cooker all in one fell swoop.
We now converse with Gonzales about his experience thus far in Snyder (1-19 through two seasons) and what he’s hoping to build in this Big Country Preps Q&A.
