ABILENE — After watching his team drop the opener of its Class 3A Division II state semifinal series 5-0 on Thursday, Wall coach Jeremy Gordon was confident his Hawks would respond well when they returned to the field for the conclusion of the best-of-three affair on Friday at Hardin-Simmons University’s Hunter Field.
He was right.
But unfortunately for the defending state champion Hawks, there were two confident, talented and resilient ballclubs on the field Friday, and it was the Panthers who landed the final blow in a heavyweight bout, bouncing back from a 9-4 loss in Game 2 to score a come-from-behind 11-8 win in Game 3 to slip past Wall and into next week’s state championship game against Franklin.
