Hosting Wichita Falls Memorial a day earlier than scheduled to beat the winter storm expected to hit Abilene on Friday, the Wylie girls and boys basketball teams both picked up key district wins Thursday at Bulldog Gym.

The Lady Bulldogs blasted the Lady Mavericks 46-18 in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, taking sole possession of the District 4-5A lead in the process. And the Bulldogs used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a 57-45 win in the late game, evening their district record at 1-1 two nights after falling 61-53 at Abilene High.

The sweep improved the Wylie girls (24-5 overall) to 4-0 in league play at the midway point of their district schedule, while the boys improved to 10-11 with their fourth win in their last five games.
