DISTRICT 8-2A DIV. II WEEK 6 REPORT: Mutual open date gives teams time to prep, heal before league play

All of District 8-2A Division II was idle on Friday, with district play opening next week.

Here’s a quick look at the approaching matchups:

Santo (4-1) — The Wildcats enter district play off their first loss of the season, falling 49-27 to Millsap in Week 5.

But Santo has been otherwise dominant and will enter next week’s road trip to Era having outscored its opponents by a 177-82 margin overall.

Era (5-0) — The Hornets have been the biggest surprise in this district, posting a perfect record through nondistrict play.

They enter next week’s matchup with Santo with the district’s third-best scoring offense and second-best scoring defense.

Lindsay (5-0) — The Knights coasted through their nondistrict schedule, outscoring their five opponents by an average of almost 44 points per game.

They’ll have a tough district-opening assignment, though, with a road trip to defending state champion Muenster in the offing.

Collinsville (4-1) — The Pirates have an strong team once again, and they’ll enter next week’s home game against Chico off back-to-back wins.

Collinsville has outscored its opponents 163-95 for the year with its only setback coming in Week 3 to Callisburg.

Muenster (3-2) — The Hornets have two losses, but both were competitive games against one-loss teams from larger classifications.

They should still be viewed as a district favorite heading into their league opener against Lindsay, particularly after handing a good De Leon team a 47-16 defeat their last time out.

Chico (1-4) — The one program in this district that has struggled this season, the Dragons’ only win of the year came in Week 1 at Detroit.

Since then, they’ve dropped four straight and been shut out twice — which makes next week’s trip to a Collinsville a very tall task.
