WACO — The Abilene Christian girls basketball team continued its improbable playoff run Wednesday, securing its third consecutive upset to earn a spot in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools Class 3A state championship game.
Coming off hard-fought victories over No. 3 McKinney Cornerstone Christian (35-32) and No. 5 Fort Worth Covenant Classical (34-30 in overtime), the Lady Panthers downed second-ranked Fellowship Academy of Kennedale 38-31 on Wednesday at Waco University High School to earn a title game matchup with No. 1 Waco Live Oak Classical (24-6) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Waco Robinson High School.
Coach Laura Lange’s ACS squad outscored the Lady Mustangs in every quarter but one, getting out to a quick start and maintaining that momentum the rest of the way to extend its dream season.
