Entering Tuesday’s matchup at Cooper, no team in District 4-5A was playing better baseball than Lubbock Monterey.
The Cougars, meanwhile, hadn’t won a district game since edging Lubbock High 2-0 on March 5.
But after coming up on the short end of number of close games since then, coach Brandon Stover’s squad finally pulled out a tight one, handing the Plainsmen a 3-1 loss on the strength of a complete game pitching gem by Jeron Flores.
