SAN ANTONIO — It took one of the Big Country’s own to finally end the dramatic postseason run for Westbrook. 

Mattie Dollar, who was the Big Country Preps Newcomer of the Year as a freshman at Anson in 2022, charted a game-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting (61 percent) to lead second-ranked Newcastle to a 59-37 win over WHS in Thursday’s Class 1A girls state semifinal at the Alamodome.

Dollar and company now advance to face Turkey Valley (37-2) in Saturday’s 1A state title game at 8:30 a.m. in the same venue.

Unranked Westbrook closed its season at 28-10, with Tae Morris scoring a team-high 17 points and Raenee Rich adding 11.
