COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: The Brownwood Lions … five days to two-a days

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 16. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on July 31, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2023 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We continue in Class 4A Division I with the Brownwood Lions. On Thursday we will take a look at the Stephenville Yellow Jackets, followed by the Wylie Bulldogs on Friday.

BROWNWOOD LIONS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 10-3 overall, 4-0 District 2-4A Division I

ONE KEY STAT

  • Brownwood earned its 14th consecutive playoff berth last fall, claiming its first district championship since 2010.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Senior QB Ike Hall (Passed for 1,837 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 948 yards and 12 TDs in 2022)
  • Senior LB Sam Kallman (Had 134 tackles and 5 sacks in 2022)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • What will the Brownwood offense look like with quarterback Ike Hall as its only returning starter?
  • How good can a defense with nine returning starters be after allowing just 17.2 points per game a year ago?
  • How much support will the Lions get from call-ups from a 9-1 junior varsity squad?
