COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: The Coleman Bluecats … 25 days to two-a-days

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 16. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on July 31, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2023 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We continue in Class 2A Division I with the Coleman Bluecats. On Friday we will take a look at the De Leon Bearcats, followed by the Goldthwaite Eagles on Saturday.

COLEMAN BLUECATS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 9-3 overall, 5-1 District 5-2A Division I

ONE KEY STAT

  • The Bluecats have posted a combined 20-4 record over the past two seasons, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 923-197 over that stretch.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Senior QB/DB Jadin Jackson (Passed for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns, rushed for 850 yards and 10 TDs and had 55 tackles and an intercepion in 2022)
  • Senior TE/LB Hunter Lackey (Had 93 tackles and 17 tackles for loss in 2022)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • Can a strong nucleus of returning players help call-ups from a 7-3 junior varsity team get up to speed in time to challenge for a district title?
  • Can the Bluecats develop some weapons at the running back and receiver positions after losing a couple of dynamic ones to graduation?
  • Can the Coleman defense with five returning starters maintain the elite level of play we’ve seen from it in recent seasons?
