Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.
We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 16. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.
Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2023 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.
We continue in Class 2A Division I with the Hawley Bearcats s. On Monday we will take a look at the Stamford Bulldogs, followed by the Winters Blizzards on Tuesday.
HAWLEY BEARCATS
LAST YEAR’S RECORD
- 16-0 overall, 6-0 in District 4-2A Division I
ONE KEY STAT
- The Bearcats have averaged 12.8 wins over the past five seasons, including the program’s first state championship game appearance in 2021 and first state title last season.
TWO NAMES TO KNOW
- Senior WR/DE Diontay Ramon (Received for 1,204 yards and 9 touchdowns and had 67 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 8 sacks in 2022)
- Senior WR/DB Chandlin Myers (Received for 68 yards and 9 touchdowns and had 73 tackles and 4 interceptions in 2022)
THREE BURNING QUESTIONS
- Can the Bearcats replace the production they got last year in the backfield from quarterback Rodey Hooper and running back Austin Cumpton?
- Can call-ups from last year’s 7-3 junior varsity team fill the holes left by the graduation of 18 lettermen?
- Will Hawley’s defense be as potent as it has been in recent years with just four starters back from last year’s team?
