ODESSA — The Cooper football team hung with unbeaten Odessa Permian for three quarters Friday at Ratliff Stadium, but the Panthers scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth period to pull away for a 56-28 win in the final nondistrict test for both squads.
Permian rushed for 311 yards and outgained the Cougars 541-274 for the game, but CHS took advantage of a special teams score and four Panther turnovers to stay within a touchdown at halftime (28-21) and at the end of three quarters (35-28).
Eventually, though, the home team’s ground attack was just too much for the Coogs, resulting in fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns from Juzstyce Lara, Rodney Hall and Jonathan Viscaino to turn a close game into a four-touchdown margin.
