2022 CROSS PLAINS FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Speedy Buffaloes look to compete in tough district

NOTE — Cross Plains will be playing this season in memory of standout senior Ryan Hopkins, who died as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Aug. 7. Coach Daniel Purvis’ comments on his team and the season were made prior to that accident, in which sophomore lineman Bentley Hall also was injured.

Sharing a district with perennial power Albany and a talented Roscoe squad that won 10 games last fall, Cross Plains coach Daniel Purvis knows his team won’t be picked to win its league by most pundits. But with 16 of 19 lettermen returning, including a bevy of starters on both sides of the ball, he feels good about the team he’ll be putting on the field this fall.

The 2022 Buffaloes will have speed all over the field and be bigger on the lines than they’ve been in years.

It’s that combination, along with the experience gained during last year’s 6-5 campaign, that have Cross Plains and its coach optimistic in their ability to compete despite the tough district alignment the Buffs find themselves in.
