Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.
We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.
Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.
We stay in Class 2A Division I with the Coleman Bluecats. On Friday we will take a look at the De Leon Bearcats, followed by the Goldthwaite Eagles on Saturday.
COLEMAN BLUECATS
LAST YEAR’S RECORD
- 12-1 overall, 5-0 District 4-2A Division I
ONE KEY STAT
- The Bluecats reached double-digit wins for the third time in coach John Elder’s tenure and just the seventh time in program history last season.
TWO NAMES TO KNOW
- Senior RB/LB Ryland Gentry (Had 870 yards and 13 touchdowns rushing while collecting 113 tackles in 2021)
- Junior QB Jadin Jackson (Had 934 yards and 12 touchdowns passing and 910 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing in 2021)
THREE BURNING QUESTIONS
- With 15 of 19 lettermen returning, including seven offensive and eight defensive starters, can the Bluecats match or improve upon last year’s success this fall?
- How much better and more comfortable will quarterback Jadin Jackson be in his second year as the team’s starter?
- Can the Coleman defense repeat last year’s performance, which saw the Bluecats limit opponents to just six points per game, including five shutouts?
