COUNTDOWN TO TWO-A-DAYS: Hico Tigers

Football is just around the corner, and we at BigCountryPreps.com are committed to bringing you the information you need to prepare for your favorite team’s season.

We’ll be releasing our Big Country Preps Preseason Football Preview, the most comprehensive look at the upcoming Big Country football season anywhere, on Wednesday, Aug. 17. But you won’t have to wait until then to sate your gridiron appetite.

Leading up to the first day of fall football practice on Aug. 1, we’ll be spotlighting each 11-man team in the area and posing some of the key questions they’ll face in 2022 as part of our annual “Countdown to Two-a-Days” series.

We continue in Class 2A Division II with the Hico Tigers. On Wednesday we will take a look at the Forsan Buffaloes, followed by the Anson Tigers on Thursday.

HICO TIGERS

LAST YEAR’S RECORD

  • 5-6 overall, 2-2 in District 8-2A Division II

ONE KEY STAT

  • Hico’s 255 points in 2021 were the Tigers’ most since 2017, when they posted their last winning record at 7-4.

TWO NAMES TO KNOW

  • Senior DT Ty Crawford (Had 42 tackles and 6 tackles for loss in 2021)
  • Junior QB/DB Carson Keller (Had 27 tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 pass breakups in 2021)

THREE BURNING QUESTIONS

  • After finishing third in district and reaching the playoffs last fall, can the Tigers take another step forward in Todd Swearengin’s second season?
  • Does Hico have enough depth in its program to overcome the loss of 14 lettermen, including seven offensive and eight defensive starters?
  • Who will emerge as the Tigers’ offensive playmakers behind a big offensive line in 2022?
