LUBBOCK ā Coming off a difficult 8-6 road loss to Lubbock Monterey on Friday, the Cooper softball team needed a win at Lubbock High on Wednesday to avoid an 0-3 start to District 4-5A play. Playing a day later than scheduled due to heavy winds in the Lubbock area Tuesday, the Lady Cougars had little trouble accomplishing that, dominating at the plate and in the circle in a 10-0 run-rule victory over the Lady Westerners.
Summer Simmons and Jahlissah Marquez combined to pitch a two-hit shutout, and they got 14 hits from their offense, with six of those going for extra bases.
Cooper scored four in the first inning and two in the second to take control early, before tacking on a seventh run in the fifth inning and putting the 10-run rule into effect with a three-run sixth.
