A seven-run bottom of the first wasn’t enough to fuel the Wylie softball team to a win over Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday as the Lady Plainsmen countered with 12 unanswered runs to hand the Lady Bulldogs a 14-7 loss in the District 4-5A opener for both teams at Bulldog Field.
Monterey scored at least one run in every inning, using a five-run fourth to take a 10-7 lead it would only add to from there.
Wylie, which was coming off a 1-0 walk-off win over Stamford on Saturday, fell to 11-5 overall and 0-1 in district play with Tuesday’s loss — the first meeting between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Plainsmen since Monterey ended WHS’ season in the Region I-5A quarterfinals last season.
