The Wylie baseball team opened District 4-5A play with a 3-0 win over Lubbock Monterey on Tuesday, getting a combined shutout from pitchers Tye Briscoe and Grayson Bearden at Bulldog Field.

Briscoe went the first 4.2 innings to earn the win, while Bearden recorded the final seven outs for a save.

The victory, which followed a 4-0 run at the Abilene ISD Invitational baseball tournament, improved Wylie to 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
