McKINNEY — Facing the defending state champion Lipan Lady Indians with a trip to the Class 2A state tournament on the line, the Stamford Lady Bulldogs looked like anything but a team playing in its first region title game Saturday at McKinney North High School.
Having already achieved the program’s deepest playoff run ever with Friday’s 59-49 region semifinal win over Muenster, SHS led the Lipan wire to wire, building a double-digit lead in the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth for a 49-33 victory.
The victory, which extended the Lady Bulldogs’ streak of double-digit playoff wins to five, improved Stamford’s record to 34-2 and earned coach Joe Crabb’s squad a trip to San Antonio next week for the state tournament.
