Entering the night tied with Lubbock Monterey and Wylie atop the District 4-5A standings, the Cooper boys had a chance to gain a leg up on the Plainsmen when they visited Cougar Gym on Friday.
But after rallying from a double-digit deficit in the third quarter to take a 53-52 lead with 3:14 remaining, the Cougars were outscored 13-5 the rest of the way in a tough 65-58 loss.
It was the second consecutive loss for Cooper, which fell 60-39 at Lubbock Cooper on Tuesday after coming into the week one of just two District 4-5A teams without a loss through three league games.
