GAME STORY: Hawks, Williams hang on to beat Holliday 2-1 in Game 1

Wall starting pitcher Austin Williams was facing his final batter, regardless of the outcome.

With his pitch count reaching 109, Williams was allowed to face Holliday cleanup hitter Dalton Anderson with two outs in the seventh inning with two outs, a 2-1 lead and a man in scoring position.

As it turned out, Wall coach Jason Schniers’ decision to leave his tired starter in was the correct one. Williams fanned Anderson to end the game and give the Hawks a 2-1 win in Game 1 of a Region I-3A area series at Hardin-Simmons University.
