GAME STORY: Cooper rallies in final at-bat for thrilling 9-8 win over Coronado

Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh after watching Lubbock Coronado score two in the top half of the inning to take its first lead of the game, the Cooper softball team needed some players to step up in the clutch Tuesday to keep its hopes of earning a No. 2 playoff seed alive.

Fortunately for coach Stacey Herring and her Lady Cougars, a trio of seniors did exactly that.

Just three outs away from suffering their third final at-bat loss of the District 4-5A season, Jennika Willis, Angelic Gonzalez and Jayden Falcon wouldn’t let the Lady Mustangs get one, leading off the home half of the seventh with back-to-back-to-back hits to fuel the Lady Coogs to a thrilling 9-8 victory at the Cooper softball field.
