BROWNWOOD — In the bottom of the second inning, Brownwood’s Hunter Day missed the sign for a hit-and-run in which Gavin Brandstetter was thrown out stealing second.

Day and Brownwood coach Brian Harris had a discussion after the fact and Day said postgame that he has to do better as a senior and not make mental mistakes like that.

He buckled down on the mound after the hitting gaffe and that allowed the Lions to rally for a 4-3 win over Gatesville in District 6-4A play on Tuesday night at Morris Southall Field as Kris Hobbs delivered the walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh.
