Turnovers and struggles from the free throw line made Cooper’s nondistrict game against Midland High closer than it should have been Monday, but in the end, the Lady Cougars did enough to hold on for a 56-52 win at Cougar Gym.
Coach Arsenio Geter’s squad saw and 10-point lead with 3:56 to play whittled to two points in the game’s final minute. But the Lady Coogs were able to make a stop in the waning seconds and hit two free throws on the other end to preserve the narrow win.
Cooper (4-6), which never trailed in the contest, had numerous chances to pull away, and appeared poised to do so on a number of occasions. But more than 20 turnovers and an 18-of-36 tally from the free-throw line for the Lady Coogs allowed the Lady Bulldogs (4-7) to fight their way back into the game each time it looked like things were getting away from them.
