District 5-3A Div. II Week 2 Report: Badgers rally for win over Stanton

Merkel 24, Stanton 22 —Three different Badgers — Joey Zink, Preston Jackson and Isaac Sebastian — all threw touchdown passes as Merkel improved to 2-0. 

The Badgers trailed 22-18 heading into the fourth quarter before rallying for the win.

Merkel is off to its first 2-0 start since 2004. Stanton fell to 1-1 with the loss. 

Albany 64, Dublin 27 — Barrett Beal threw for 165 yards and four scores and Jaheim Newton rushed for 310 yards and two TDs to lift Albany (2-0). 

Sophomore Chris Teten led Dublin, hitting 21 of 37 passes for 318 yards and two touchdowns as DHS fell to 1-1. 

Leading 27-18 at the break, Albany blew the game open with three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter. 

Holliday 29, Eastland 28 — Eastland saw a 28-0 first-half lead evaporate in a furious second-half rally by visiting Holliday. 

Jaxx Johnson pulled HHS within 1 on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter and Peyton Marchand scored a go-ahead two-point conversion to lift Holliday (2-0). 

Behren Morton led Eastland (0-2) with 327 passing yards and three scores.  

Boyd 21, Jacksboro 16 — Boyd forced three Jacksboro turnovers to slow JHS’ double-wing offense and limit it to just 186 total yards. 

Boyd, in the meantime, rolled up 301 yards rushing, led by Rendyn Lamance, who rushed for 172 yards and a score. 

Boyd improved to 2-0 with the win. Jacksboro, which rushed for an uncharacteristically low 88 yards as a team, fell to 1-1. 

Millsap 37, Henrietta 0 — A scout Millsap defense blanked Henrietta and limited the Bearcats to just 104 yards in total offense.

Lawson Nairn led the Bulldogs (2-0), hitting 11 of 22 throws for 224 yards and two scores. Wesley Rogers added two TDs on the ground with 28 yards rushing. 

Henrietta dropped to 0-2.
