Snyder 14, Fort Stockton 12 — The Tigers scored what may end up being the upset of the year Friday, grinding out a defensive victory over the previously unbeaten Panthers in their district opener.
Snyder, now 1-4 overall and 1-0 in 1-4A DII play, rallied from an early 6-0 deficit to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. And after going up 14-6 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Jayden Samaniego midway through the third quarter, the Tigers kept Fort Stockton from tying the game by stopping a two-point conversion attempt with 3:18 remaining in the fourth.
SHS limited a potent Panther offense to just 313 yards, including 139 rushing, while forcing four turnovers in the win, the first in coach Wes Wood’s head coaching career. The Tigers will try to build on that next week when they host Monahans, while Fort Stockton will have its open date.
