Brownwood 10, Brock 0 — The Lions avenged last year’s 41-10 drubbing at the hands of Brock with a victory on the Eagles’ home field.
A 73-yard scoring run by Reece Rogers with 8:21 left in the second quarter was the big blow in a game dominated by defense.
The Lions (1-0) made it a two-score game with 4:04 left to play when Blaize Espinoza booted a 27-yard field goal.
Brock outgained the Lions 330-282, but a minus-4 turnover count proved crippling for the Eagles (0-1).
Argyle 42, Stephenville 14 — Four TD strikes from Bo Hogeboom were at the heart of Argyle’s lopsided win over Stephenville at Tarleton State University.
AHS had built a 35-0 lead by the break, all but ending the suspense early on. The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Stephenville’s Sterling Doty.
Highly touted SHS quarterback Kade Renfro, who has already committed to North Texas, was limited to 78 yards passing with two interceptions.
The Eagles will now try to regroup for a home date with Everman on Sept. 6.
China Spring 42, Lorena 21 — Brayden Faulkner threw for 212 yards to help China Spring open the season with a win.
The Cougars (1-0), who finished with more than 500 yards in total offense, also got 172 yards rushing and two scores from running back Emmanuel Abdallah on 28 carries.
The game was delayed by a lighting problem that saw all of the lights go out on the home side for an extended period of time.
Midlothian Heritage 63, Gatesville 19 — Heritage amassed more than 400 yards in total offense, of which 265 were on the ground in a season-opening rout of Gatesville.
Heritage overcame three turnovers with an 85-percent efficiency on third down.
Gatesville (0-1) will next see action when it hosts Waco Robinson on Sept. 6.
