Stamford 30, Merkel 8 — Stamford held Merkel to just 166 yards in total offense en route to a road win in its season opener.
With the score knotted at 8 at the break, Stamford used a 22-0 run through the second half to put the Badgers away.
Trace Price threw for 141 yards and one score while Shavaris Cooper, D’Marcus Barber and Trace Price all added rushing TDs to lead the Bulldogs.
Merkel (0-1) was led by Isaac Sebastian with 157 yards rushing and one score.
Winters 21, Goldthwaite 0 — Alex Salas rushed for 129 yards and two scores to lift the Blizzards to a road win.
WHS finished with 234 yards on the ground on just 33 carries to spoil the debut of new Goldthwaite coach Keith Virdell. The Eagles were limited to just 152 total yards, of which 142 were on the ground.
Jackson Patrick led Goldthwaite with 66 yards on 16 carries.
Winters (1-0) will play host to Eldorado (1-0) next week.
Sonora 33, Ozona 13 — SHS (1-0) had its way with Ozona behind 306 yards rushing and five scores from Brock Aschenbeck.
Ozona led early following a 36-yard TD run by Alec Lara early on and trailed 20-13 midway through the third quarter. But Aschenbeck added his fourth and fifth TDs of the night on runs of 18 and 82 yards to end the Lions’ hopes of an upset.
Lara finished with 194 passing yards to lead Ozona (0-1), which will face Iraan on the road next week.
Coahoma 38, Forsan 0 — Zach Schneider rushed for 119 yards, threw for 121 yards and accounted for three scores to lead CHS to a win over its archrival.
Bryson Kirby also had a big day for the Bulldogs (1-0) rushing for 146 yards and a score on just 21 carries.
Hawley 39, Roscoe 0 — Hawley opened with a dominating win, pushing for 339 yards rushing, including 274 yards and three scores from bruising running back Colton Marshall.
The Bearcats threw only seven times, but were efficient. Xavier Rodela finished 5 of 7 for 44 yards and one score. Rodela also rushed 10 times for 59 yards and another touchdown.
