The top-ranked Wall Hawks earned their trip to the Class 3A state tournament with a hard-fought series win over a scrappy and well-rounded Brock club.

Their reward? A semifinal matchup against a Kirbyville team that reminds coach Jason Schniers a whole lot of the Eagles.

Wall will take on the Wildcats at 9 a.m. Friday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, and Schniers is expecting a challenge similar to the one Brock posed. And given that the Eagles handed his Hawks (37-1) their first and only loss of the season in Game 2 of that three-game region championship series, he knows his team will have to play with a sense of urgency to extend its campaign into Saturday’s title game.
