LUBBOCK — A slugfest broke out Friday at the Lubbock Cooper softball field, where the Wylie Lady Bulldogs opened their Region I-5A bi-district series against Canyon Randall with a 17-11 victory.

Coach Heather Collier’s Wylie squad scored in every inning but the fifth and shut out the Lady Raiders after an eight-run Randall fourth to take a leg up heading into Saturday’s Game 2.
