SWEETWATER — Quarterback Cutter Sparks and the explosive Shallowater offense proved too much for Eastland to handle Thursday as the Mustangs piled up 700 yards of total offense and had five scoring plays of at least 37 yards in a 56-21 Region I-3A semifinal win at the Mustang Bowl.
Sparks accounted for 236 of his team’s 489 rushing yards and passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns to keep the Mustangs perfect at 13-0 and end the Mavericks’ season at 9-4.
Eastland, which got 245 yards passing and two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Behren Morton, fell behind 28-0 before scoring its first touchdown and could never make the stops necessary to get back in the game.
