Wall shortstop Ryan Gully showed off range Saturday that would have made Ozzie Smith proud in the Hawks’ Region I-3A semifinal against Breckenridge.
The senior made countless eye-popping stops to either rob a hit or prevent extra bases and his play is a big reason top-ranked Wall will face Brock for a state berth next week.
“He has been like that (all season) and has been really comfortable coming back from his injury,” Wall coach Jason Schniers said. “That was a big injury for a 17-, 18-year-old kid. He made plays tonight that in the back of my mind I was just like ‘Wow. I’m glad he’s on my team.'”
