With boys basketball season beginning this week, it’s time to shine a spotlight on some of the players you’ll be reading about throughout the 2022-23 season.

DISTRICT 4-2A DIV. I WEEK 11 REPORT: Stamford, Olney, Hawley close regular season with wins

Stamford 45, Colorado City 0 — The SHS defense limited Colorado City to only 133 yards in total offense as the Bulldogs solidified their hold on the No. 3 seed.

Stamford finished with 398 yards in total offense, including 281 yards on the ground through seven different ball carriers.

With the girls basketball season upon us, it’s time to take a look at the local and area players who will be making the biggest impact for their teams during the 2022-23 season.

DISTRICT 4-2A DIV. I WEEK 9 REPORT: Colorado City ends 10-game losing streak; Stamford, Hawley both victorious

Colorado City 38, Winters 8 — Mayson Monroe threw for 181 yards and two scores and Aedan Brisen rushed for 161 yards and another TD to lift C-City (1-7, 1-3) to its first win

of the year, snapping a 10-game losing streak that dated by to last season.

DISTRICT 4-2A DIV. I WEEK 7 REPORT: Cisco, Anson, Hawley all notch important district wins

Cisco 34, Olney 15 — Hunter Long accounted for 355 of Cisco’s 399 yards in total offense, rushing for 338 yards and throwing for 17 in an important win over Olney.

Long found the end zone five times, scoring on runs of 11, 83, 64, 2 and 7 yards to help the Loboes improve to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in District 4-2A DI. 

 Olney was led by Gatlin Guy who rushed for 122 yards and one TD and Jovani Rockmore, who rushed for 116 and another TD.

DISTRICT 4-2A DIV. I WEEK 6 REPORT: Stamford tops Olney, Anson, Cisco notch wins

Stamford 22, Olney 13 — Christian Duran rushed for 92 yards and one TD and Hayden Henager

rushed for 66 yards and another touchdown unbeaten Stamford (6-0) handed Olney (4-1) its first loss
of the season. 

The Cubs had a narrow 287-266 edge in yardage, but Stamford forced five turnovers to earn the win on the road.

BIG COUNTRY PREPS GAME OF THE WEEK: Brownwood entertains red hot Glen Rose (w/ Evan Ren’s Big Country picks)

LAST WEEK: 51-10, .836

Football picks are something I take pride in and it irritates me to no end when I stink it up. So let’s just say, I burned some midnight oil to get that situation corrected last week. 

As a result, the column recovered with a solid .836 percentage in Week 3, salvaging my bruised ego after a disastrous Week 2 tally. In all, 51 of 61 area picks hit the mark last week, elevating my season’s record above 75 percent. 

That’s more like it.

Week 4 in the meantime, presents a lineup of some of the most difficult area picks we’ve had this season — including an explosive Glen Rose team facing Brownwood in our BCP Game of the Week. Let’s dive in, shall we?
