It’s a big weekend for Isabella Cox and the Coahoma girls basketball team.
The Bulldogettes need to spring a couple upsets starting Friday night against Wall and following with Merkel the next day to have a chance at the postseason.
A year after leading Coahoma to its first district title since 2008, Cox and the Bulldogettes have faced more than their fair share of adversity this winter.
UIL realignment landed Coahoma into a district with three ranked teams in No. 2 Jim Ned, No. 14 Wall and No. 19 Merkel. To make matters more challenging, Cox sprained her ankle and was forced to miss multiple district games.
Jim Ned 41, Pilot Point 0 — Troy Doran rushed for 174 yards and two scores to lead Jim Ned to an easy first round win over Pilot Point.
Idalou 56, Santon 34 — Idalou rolled up 480 yards in total offense in an easy win over Stanton.
Coahoma 27, Lubbock Roosevelt 26 — The Bulldogs survived what might be the most evenly matched game we’ve seen in the area this season.
Coahoma 40, Stanton 12 — Jaidyn Vineyard rushed for 161 yards and two TDs on 21 carries as Coahoma defeated Stanton to keep its district title hopes alive.
Idalou 28, Coahoma 16 — Idalou held off a strong challenge from Coahoma, forcing four Bulldog turnovers to get the win.

JACKSBORO — Comanche staked its claim as the District 5-3A Division II favorite Friday night against Jacksboro.
With a difficult Olney team paying them a visit on Friday, the Cisco Loboes could ill afford a misstep in their quest to win District 4-2A Division I — not with Stamford and Hawley still on their plate.
Coahoma 35, Littlefield 28 — Boyd Cox threw for 261 yards and three scores and Tristan Guerrero hauled in four catches for 113 yards and one TD to lead Coahoma (5-1, 1-0) to an important district win.
Coahoma (4-1) — The Bulldogs were idle on Friday night but will see action again when they play host to Littlefield on Oct. 7 in the district opener for both clubs.
