JAYTON — The Jayton football team entered Friday night’s game against Newcastle with a 34-game winning streak and having won 46 of its previous 47 games overall.
Facing a third-and-goal with 12 seconds to play in a tie game, the second-ranked Jaybirds were poised to extend their streak when Newcastle’s Keegen Voyles intercepted a pass by Lorenzo Vargas and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown to give the Bobcats a 58-52 walk-off victory at Jaybird Stadium.
It was a play that left the home crowd so quiet you could hear a pin drop while the visiting sideline and stands were exploding with jubilation.
