With just three returning lettermen and a roster composed primarily of sophomores and juniors, the 2018-19 Abilene High boys basketball team is still very much a work in progress.
Coach Justin Reese’s first Eagle squad features just three seniors. And of those, only guard Landon Talley and forward Brian Patton had ever played a varsity game before this season.
But hidden in the natural inconsistency that comes with a young team — and AHS’ overall record, which sits at 11-17 heading into Friday’s home game against Haltom City Haltom — is a belief in the Eagle locker room that a corner has finally been turned. And it’s thanks in large part to the example Talley and Patton have set that that’s the case, Reese said.
