The Wylie football team rode a fast start to a 21-0 first-quarter lead, and a dominant defensive effort ensured the game would never get in any closer after that in a 42-3 win over Lubbock Cooper on Friday at Hugh Sandifer Stadium.
The Bulldogs allowed just 66 total yards and forced four turnovers — all in the first half — to overwhelm a Pirates team that was coming off a 48-6 win over Lubbock Coronado for its first victory of the season.
The Wylie offense, meanwhile, turned 308 total yards into six touchdowns — five on those on fields of 56 yards or shorter — to bounce back from a 53-10 loss at Amarillo Palo Duro last week.
