As with practically any sport, football is a game of inches. Though the 2025 Anson Tigers had what would be classified as a solid season by almost any measure, they were literally inches away from a special one.
In the second round of the playoffs last fall, the Tigers fell to Spearman 28-27. Ask practically any coach, and he will tell you a one-point defeat is defined by an inch here or an inch there. In a heartbreaking defeat like the Tigers experienced in their final game of the year, the inches that decide the outcome produce a series of “what ifs?” that can torment you for months.
Anson coach Kyle Wheeler has spent roughly eight months asking that question in various incarnations. But now he’s ready for his team to make a statement.
