SNYDER — Trailing fourth-ranked Eula by nine points more than a minute into the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Region II-1A championship game, the Westbrook Lady Cats’ season appeared to be in serious peril.
WHS had scored only 24 points to that point and had managed only five of those after going to halftime facing a 23-19 deficit.
But those who have followed Westbrook’s season closely know better than to ever count the Lady Cats out. And coach Jeff Bontrager’s squad showed why yet again, finding their stride in time to close the game on a 14-2 run, secure a dramatic 38-35 win and earn the WHS program’s second trip to the state tournament since 2021.
