Trailing 14-0 after a quarter, Cross Plains (6-1, 1-0) got the first of two Caleb Hernandez rushing touchdowns to trim the deficit to one score by halftime, and the Buffs took their first lead in the third quarter with a pair of Hernandez TD passes. The CPHS quarterback added his second rushing score with about three minutes remaining in the game to put coach Daniel Purvis’ squad up 25-14 and effectively seal the victory.
Haskell got a pair of rushing touchdowns from Jacari Holland in the loss, which dropped the Indians to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in league play heading into next week’s home game against Hamlin. Cross Plains will be idle next week before hosting Albany on Oct. 25.
