Needing a win to avoid a three-way tie for third place in District 4-5A and eliminate the potential of being left without a playoff spot after a musical chairs tiebreaker scenario, the Cooper Lady Cougars took things into their own hands Friday.
Led by Keiana Kemp with 13 points and Jennika Willis with 10, the Lady Coogs outscored Wichita Falls Rider in each of the final three quarters on their way to a 35-27 victory at Cougar Gym.
The win clinches coach Lauren Ash’s squad a postseason berth and should earn Cooper the No. 3 seed, assuming second-place Wylie takes care of Wichita Falls High (9-18, 2-5) at home on Tuesday.
